For about a year, the majority of the posts here at the Dead Dog Cafe were reviews of various consumer products like mobile devices and online applications, and I have since spun these off into a new site: Cheapskate Reviews. I also write freelance for the excellent “review the reviewers” site ConsumerSearch.com. Below you’ll find links to their sections and the additional reports I have done on Cheapskate Reviews.
- Automotive: ConsumerSearch has an extensive set of reviews for new cars. For used cars under $5,000, refer to my old posts or my collection of links on Diigo.
- Computers & Internet: ConsumerSearch has great resources for new hardware and software. Cheapskate Reviews augments this with posts on (free) online applications, lightweight GNU/Linux, and cheapskate approaches to mobile devices, laptops, and other hardware. Even more reviews with my comments are in my Diigo collection of links.
- Fitness & Sports: I’m no expert on any of this, but I do have some clues on ultralight backpacking gear.
- Home & Garden: I didn’t write about this at all here, but I do have a nice set of links to pages about “man pads” and well-designed studio/efficiencies.
- Health & Beauty: ConsumerSearch has a lot of excellent articles in this area, and I have some additional links on Diigo. ConsumerSearch doesn’t really get into clothing on its site, so for men who want to make the most of their fashion dollars, check out my posts on color coordination and cheap wardrobes.
- Kitchen & Food: ConsumerSearch has in-depth research on kitchen appliance and food. I’ve done a couple posts on food, but if you want to follow the recipes I like, visit my list on Diigo or find me on Allrecipes.com.
If you find something you want, I recommend using one of these excellent shopping sites to get it.
