[...] Your Printer – ~$2 per copy: If you are printing less than 1,000 copies of your comic and are willing to accept some sacrifices in time, quality, and format*, then printing from home is the way to go. Although monochrome laser printer is supposedly the least expensive home printing option in the long run, yielding 8.5″ x 11″ text prints for as little as 1.5 cents each, the cheapest laser printer that handles tabloid (11″ x 17″) output is $1600. Ink prices have been dropping, so the Brother MFC-6490CW, the first affordable inkjet to handle tabloid prints, seems an attractive option, claiming to cost only 2.8 cents per monochrome copy. Considering that most printers are replaced before their lifespan expires, and some are on record for lasting at least 250,000 prints, the additional cost per page of this $250 printer is so miniscule as to be not even worth considering. At double coverage** and 0.5 cents per page of paper, your comic will therefore cost about $1.95 cents to print, about the same as with an online digital printer (below). If you are willing to shrink down to letter size paper, then you can get the cost of your comic to be as low as a 40 cents per comic by using a laser printer.
